Texas Rep. Jodie Laubenberg doesn’t know what a rape kit is, thinks it prevents pregnancies for rape victims

“…in the emergency room they have what’s called rape kits where a woman can get cleaned out.”

– Texas State Representative Jodie Laubenberg, during a June 2014 debate over new abortion restrictions in Texas that would shutter 37 of 42 clinics.

Ms. Laubenberg literally has no idea what a rape kit does. It is used for investigative purposes to preserve physical evidence of rape, but it does not abort or prevent a pregnancy.

It’s sad that these things can be true and the misinformation these misinformed politicians spread.

I have worked with rape kits … not my favorite thing to do … everything has to be sealed and signed properly. Yes, it’s collecting evidence. And no, no, no it never prevents pregnancy or causes abortion … in addition it doesn’t erase emotional damage caused by any rape either.

    Nice posts! Nice blog!
